Freedom from the Ego Mind

There are probably various ways we could live a more free life… free from the constraints of societal pressures, for sure. But you may not realise how much limitation & pressure you put upon yourself, through the Ego mind.

Our mind is always telling us… we need to be more like this, less like that. Be happier, be more serious. Be strong, be gentle. Act this way, look that way…etc etc

Because that voice in our head has always been there with us, ‘advising’ us, we are pretty used to listening to it, and taking everything it says as truth.

But the thing about the Ego is, it thrives on being busy, it loves to be acknowledged, it loves a job, and its job is to think !  So, it’s forever bombarding us with crafty ways to keep us engaged with it, keep us thinking. That’s why we spend so much thought time in the past and the future, because that’s where all the ‘should I, could I, and what if’s ?’ belong. And where we can keep overthinking things without ever reaching a satisfactory result.

All this thinking creates neurological pathways in the brain, that cause us to repeat the same behaviours over and over - habitual thought patterns, and their learnt reactions.

So, how can we break free from this Ego trap, and find a little truth and peace? Even if just for small snippets of time. This is where mindfulness practices can really help. From formal meditation, to gardening, anything that helps you move away from the past and future, and come to the present, where you can just notice and experience life for what it is, without judgement.

The brain can be neurologically reprogrammed too. The more we are able to find these present moments, the easier it becomes to get back to them. The by product of all this is we learn to live with more equanimity. We strive less to change everything, becoming more accepting of what is. We judge others less, we judge ourselves less. We become less stressed and anxious, and more resilient.

We learn to appreciate life around us more, and in turn become more content, and sure of our place in it all.

All of the Wellness Webb’s offerings embody MIndfulness at heart. Yoga Asana, Meditation, Breath-work, Sound Healing, all help to quieten the ‘monkey mind’ and guide us towards our truer nature.

If you are unsure which practices would benefit you most, or are struggling with any particular issues, or habits, then Mindfulness Coaching may be for you. As a Certified Mindfulness Coach, I can help you unravel some of those ingrained thought patterns and repeated reactions, recommend different practices, and help you navigate your way towards greater peace of mind.
