Modern Yoga in the West can have a mind-boggling array of terms and names for different styles. It can all get quite confusing, even to the trained eye! I like to try and keep it simple, and provide a friendly, supportive class, that focuses on your overall health, fitness and wellbeing.

Hatha Yoga is really an umbrella term, encompassing most class styles, as this simply refers to practicing physical postures. These are combined with breath-work, or ‘Pranayama’. Hatha comes from the Sanskrit words ‘ha’ meaning Sun, and ‘tha’ meaning Moon, and can be thought of as the Yoga of balance. It is traditionally designed to align the body and mind in harmony, and prepare them for meditation.

In Vinyasa yoga, the classic poses will be held for less time. You ‘flow’ through, in more fluid movements, that sync with the breath. This creates the calming, moving meditation.

My classes will typically feature sequences that are a combination of Hatha and Vinyasa styles, usually referred to as ‘Slow Flow’. I’ll often add in some specific pranayama techniques and guided meditations, for good measure, and end with relaxation. The classes are always accessible and adaptable, with modifications offered throughout, so that they are suitable for everybody, whether you want to take it easy, or feel like a challenge.

The classes will build strength, flexibility and balance, whilst encouraging you to stay in the moment, leaving you with a sense of peace, in body and mind.

Yoga Nidra

An ancient Yogic practice, that is a form of meditation and mind-body practice. A guided relaxation, typically done for 30-40 mins, in which the body, senses and mind are restored, to bring wholeness and well-being. It has gained in popularity, as a proven method to combat anxiety and stress, bringing deep relaxation and calm, and aiding restful sleep. It is also successfully used to assist with PTSD. It can be performed in a group session, alongside our sound baths, restorative yoga, or as an individual practice.
